Open Containers Pose Suffocation Risks!

June 07, 2025

Open jars and containers can easily entrap wildlife and put them in danger! Wild Florida Rescue recently saved a small Screech Owl who was trapped inside a plastic jar.

A homeowner called the Rescue Group after finding a small owl inside a plastic container inside her garden tool shed. Kevin, the rescuer, was able to gently lift the owl out of the plastic container. There was also a pair of garden gloves inside the container.

Exhausted and dehydrated, the owl was taken to the Wildlife Hospital for care and observation. This is a gentle reminder to always keep the lids screwed on tightly on any jar or container so pets and wildlife will not be able to put their head inside and potentially suffocate or starve. Keep the doors to garages and outdoor sheds closed, as well.

Kudos to the homeowner and Wildlife Rescue Group for their quick action in saving this sweet owl. 🦉
