Today, August 15th, is “National Check the Chip Day!” ⁣☑️

⁣⁣⁣Microchip your pet! Lost or stolen pets have a much higher chance of being reunited with their families if they have been microchipped and the registration information is up to date. ⁣⁣⁣

⁣Microchipping takes seconds to do! A needle is used to place a little chip under your pet’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. That chip has a unique number on it that can be picked up and read by a scanner.⁣

⁣Consider this: ⁣

⁣➡️ A family pet is lost every two seconds. 🐶🐱⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣➡️ One out of three pets is lost during their lifetimes.⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣➡️ Only one in ten is found.⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣➡️ More than ten million pets are lost each year. ⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣Greatly increase your pet’s chance of being found if he becomes lost or stolen by microchipping today! 🐶🐱

Today is National Spoil Your Dog Day!⁣⁣

⁣As the Dog Days of Summer wind down, today is the perfect day to spoil your furry family members! ⁣

⁣⁣Here are a few ideas on how you can make today special:⁣⁣

⁣⁣🐶 Give your dog some new treats, toys, or a leash and collar ⁣⁣

⁣⁣🐶 Take your dog out for an adventure – hit the beach, head to the woods, or let your dog make some new friends at the dog park⁣⁣

⁣⁣🐶 Buy your dog a new bed or make a cozy new spot for them in your home⁣⁣

⁣⁣🐶 Take your dog to the groomer or set up an appointment for them to get pampered⁣⁣

⁣⁣Our dogs spoil us with unconditional love, so let’s give them some extra attention today! ❤️

How many chip bags, snack bags, pet food bags, and other food bags and containers do you have in your house right now? Things like:⁣

⁣✔️ Potato chips⁣

⁣✔️ Pretzels⁣

⁣✔️ Popcorn⁣

⁣✔️ Cereal⁣

⁣✔️ Shredded Cheese ⁣

⁣✔️ Peanut Butter ⁣

⁣✔️ Yogurt ⁣

⁣✔️ Pet Treats⁣

⁣All of these food bags and containers and many more can pose a life-threatening suffocation risk to your pets. And, most people have no idea!⁣

⁣A lot of these bags are made from a strong mylar-like material (like a balloon) which helps keep snacks fresher. When a curious dog puts his head into the bag looking for leftover crumbs, the bag creates a vacuum-like seal around the dog’s neck. As he tries to breathe, the bag tightens around his neck, cutting off the oxygen. When a dog cannot remove the bag from his head, he will usually start to panic, desperately running around until he collapses and dies from asphyxiation, often losing his bowels, as well. This happens within minutes.⁣

⁣Food containers and jars can also be deadly for your pets. Cats and dogs can easily get their head stuck in one and unable to get out. ⁣

⁣Cut up all food bags and dispose of properly. Ensure containers and jars are not left open for a pet to get into. Visit our website to learn more on how to prevent pet suffocation. ❤️

IMPORTANT! It’s hot outside! Please don’t leave your dogs in the car this summer – even for a minute! According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), hundreds of pets die from heat exhaustion every year because they are left in hot vehicles.

It takes mere minutes for the temperature inside your car to soar to unbearable temperatures which can quickly cause heatstroke and death to your pets. The AVMA says the temperature inside your vehicle can rise almost 20º F in just 10 minutes, and almost 30º F in 20 minutes. Within one hour, your vehicle’s inside temperature can be more than 40 degrees higher than the outside temperature. Even on a 70-degree day, that’s 110 degrees inside your vehicle! Cracking the windows makes no difference nor leaving the AC on, which can shut off on its own after a few minutes.

Don’t let your pets sweat! Leave them at home!

Dog Collar Safety is something a lot of people are unaware of. Almost 30,000 dogs die annually from some type of collar strangulation incident. It just takes a minute for a dog to get into dangerous trouble from a collar incident. Ryder Safe Foundation provides education and awareness on pet collar safety. The Founder, Lynette Smith, created the organization after losing her 4 year old Labrador, Ryder (in the photo), who died from dog collar strangulation while playing with their other pup, Skyrah, who luckily survived with terrible jaw injuries. It was a devastating event for the family.

Not only can collars become entangled when two dogs are playing, but they can also get caught on:

✅ Heater grates

✅ Furniture

✅ Fences

✅ Door knobs

✅ Entanglement during play

✅ Crates and kennels

Visit their website at www.rydersafefoundation.com to get educated about the dangers of dog collars, how to use them safely, and learn about other “safer” collar options. Another excellent website is www.nakeddogproject.com. Like pet suffocation from food bags and containers, collar strangulation can be prevented!

Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day! We’re here to remind you to prevent house fires and keep your pets safe! ⁣⁣

⁣⁣Did you know that over 500,000 pets are affected by house fires each year? And, about 40,000 pets die in house fires annually. Over 1,000 house fires a year are started by pets themselves, according to the National Fire Protection Association.⁣⁣

⁣⁣What can you do to help keep your pets safe from a fire hazard?⁣⁣

⁣⁣✔️ Avoid open flames. Blow out candles and block off access to the kitchen if your pets can reach your stove.⁣⁣

⁣⁣✔️ Keep all wires out of chewing distance – especially from kittens and puppies!⁣⁣

⁣⁣✔️ Have a pet rescue plan in place. Talk to your family about who is in charge of your pet in case of a fire and be sure to practice fire drills!⁣⁣

⁣⁣✔️ Keep your pets confined to a space near an entry/exit point when you’re out with their leashes nearby. This will help their chances of them being rescued. ⁣⁣

⁣⁣✔️Notify rescuers of your pets and their favorite hiding places. Also, make sure your pets have collars with tags in case they escape on their own.⁣⁣

⁣⁣✔️Use monitored smoke detectors and check batteries regularly. ⁣⁣

⁣⁣With careful planning and consideration, you can ensure your pets are safe no matter the emergency!
